Nika is so right, the issue for those who believe in using animals as a resource (which is the majority of the worlds population) is animal welfare. A well cared for creature housed appropriatly and killed as humanely as possible is surely the way forward. Whilst we may not all agree on the asthetic of real vs fake fur surely a consumerist society that is driven on producing low quality, disposable fashion with a high dependancy on fibres from the petrochemical industry is the more pressing issue for our world. A natural product, produced in high quality conditions that will last for years surely has its place in the modern 'green'environmentally friendly wardrobe.

Hi,
I was just reading your article and I agree with you that there is no better feeling than to be wrapped up in fur during winter! I wear fur, real fur. And I do not feel guilty about it because I wear
fur that has the Origin Assured label to show it comes from a country with regulations governing fur production and that the fur animals were farmed humanely – go and look at (www.originassured.com). Fur is one of the warmest fabrics in the world and no faux fur can replace it. Yes, faux fur can give a certain amount of warmth to a garment, but it will never be as warm as real fur. Furthermore, fake fur is a synthetic material that has been treated with different chemicals and dyes. It contains petroleum-based plastics, acrylic and polyester, that contribute to the greenhouse effect. One of the fashion designers, Zac Posen, said during the last New York fashion week that faux fur is one of the most environmentally hazardous materials one can use! Real fur, on the other hand, is a sustainable source and therefore much better for the environment. Cheers, Nika
